Production & Delivery Updates
Z1 Round 3 (May):
Domestic – US/CA
- All Jet Black and Soft White grinders have shipped – woohoo!
- Both Jet Black and Soft White are currently in the final stages of assembly and QA testing. Some units have already been delivered by the time you read this. We estimate finishing batch 3 in early January
We appreciate everyone’s collective patience as we work to finish delivering the remaining orders from round 3, and are thrilled with the response from customers who already received their Z1.
Z1 Round 4 (August):
Round 4 orders are progressing on schedule, and we look to accelerate the production cycle as soon as all orders from round 3 are delivered. At this time all front dials, knobs, and rear cover housing have been manufactured as we transition to motor assembly and QA.
We are excited to utilize our new facility and staff to decrease production times and you can expect a concrete shipping and delivery timeline with our next update.
We expect to start shipping in late January and continue through February.
Z1 Round 5 (December):
Let us be the first to extend a warm welcome to the newest members of the Zerno community! We are consistently amazed in the way that our community rallies around us to show their support during before/during/after our presale events. We are grateful to have you here, and look forward to delivering a world class coffee experience to your home.
Production prep for your grinders has begun! Parts have been ordered, staging is complete, and your grinders are ready to begin their journey through the manufacturing and assembly process.
Magnetic Portafilter Holder – We received our first magnetic portafilter prototypes from our manufacturer. After some tweaks, the magnetic portafilter holder is going into production. We expect to have it ready in late January. We will share photos of the final product when available.
Stainless Steel Funnel Cap – Our first prototypes are in and their look and feel is amazing! We expect the caps to be ready in time for round 4 delivery(August orders). We plan to add them to the Zerno store for any users that would like to add them to their order
Shipping System Upgrades
As some members of our community already know, shipping has been a consistent headwind for us early in our journey and is exacerbated for our international customers. We are implementing a couple solutions to help us ship more, faster, and safer.
- Integrated Shipping Software- This will make it easier to understand where we are able to ship and how much it will cost to get there. We are also exploring ways that we can expand shipping into new countries
- Upgraded Packaging- It is an unfortunate reality that some items are mishandled during transport regardless of who is delivering. We started using reinforced packaging to help ensure that all Zerno products arrive in pristine condition

Our shipping partners have advised our team about delivery irregularities and delays that increase during the holidays. We are doing our best to ship your grinders as quickly as possible, and appreciate the collective understanding of the reality of logistics and shipping during this time of year.
We understand the disappointment in the setbacks that have caused delays during previous production cycles. Some of those setbacks are out of our control, however we have made a point to address the things that are within our control to ensure that we deliver a world class coffee experience from end-to-end. A large part of that is finding talented team members from inside of our community who are committed to help us improve our production times and ensure that your experience is nothing short of delightful. Andrew – You may have met Andrew if you recently submitted a customer support inquiry. He is no stranger to the startup environment, and is helping us with a lot of behind the scenes stuff.
Victoria – is joining our seasoned manufacturing and QA team. She is part of the reason why the wait times on the Z1 are decreasing and we are grateful to have her on board!
